Okay, so you got yourself a blog and a dance fitness company but what is you anyway?
Work The Floor Fitness is a company I created after teaching Zumba® for over a year. I went to my first Zumba® class in April of 2016 and absolutely fell in love with the movement. I must have went to every single dance fitness class offered here locally over the following four months. Acting as a sponge and soaking up as much information and tricks of the trade I could.
At the time of WTF’s creation I was teaching four Zumba® classes at various locations here locally. One of them being a YMCA, a Christian establishment mind you. The issue I was running into was finding edited songs to debut in my classes. I’d hear a dope a** song I’d instantly have a perfect routine for and couldn’t do it in class because Spotify didn’t have an edited version of it. And while I loved Zumba®, my one complaint was the strictness surrounding the music. For example, they wanted you to refrain from using more than two popular mainstream songs within one playlist. Sure, I LOVE Latin music, in fact people used to make fun of me for listening to it in high school, but it’s not the only thing I want to listen to. When I’m dancing I want something more. I want something I can sing along to, anticipate moves and scream “unhhhhh” every time my jam comes on. Feel me?
With that, Work The Floor Fitness was born. It started off as a little side hobby where once a week I could take what I learned from dance fitness in the Zumba® world and apply it to the type of ratchet a** music I enjoyed listening to. I wanted to pop and shake my a**, roll my body and be sexy. This was not originally intended to be a business or a movement or even successful. I was going to work out once a week my way and if people came, they came. If they didn’t, they didn’t
I was surprised to actually find there were TONS of women looking for the same thing I was! A safe space to be free, let loose, and work on your physique in a fun and sexy way. The class became so big and so much fun, I quit all four of my Zumba® jobs and started focusing solely on WTF. I was determined to be the next Fitness Marshall. During this journey over the past three years I have become a better instructor, better business woman, better person and made tons of friends along the way. Dance fitness has become such a huge part of my life it consumes my imagination, conversations, and free time. I’m constantly working on continuing education, practicing new routines, following other dance fitness instructors and bloggers to get inspiration, and studying my guests to better understand their needs and wants. My guests have grown to respect and trust me as a pioneer in the industry.
I’m here to prove working out can be fun, easy and approachable. I’m out here representing the average, thick girl who likes to twerk her booty a little bit and feel empowered while doing so. I’m here for the b****y girls who like to drink and cuss a lot. But most importantly I’m here to be your friend, to guide and motivate you along the way to a healthier and happier you.
